How to Recycle Old Mobile Phones
When the cellular phone first hit the market, many were skeptical about it being popular. After all, they thought, who wants to walk around with an extra briefcase just so they can make a call? Just a few short decades later, thanks to rapid changes and advances in technology, if you don't have a cellular, you're seen as strange.Even eleven-year olds have mobiles these days!Yes, everyone has one. That's not a problem. It helps us communicate better and faster, helping business run while shaping societies. The emerging problem, though, is what to do once we're done with them.On average, a person in the United States gets a new cellular every year, even if their current one is still functioning.More often than not, these old gadgets get tossed into landfills, becoming toxic waste problems as they usually contain arsenic, brominate flame retardants, cadmium, lead, mercury, and other chemicals.Due to the problem, a movement to recycle old mobile phones has begun.States are slowly starting to make it mandatory that we recycle old mobile phones, and here's how it can be done..1) Sell it.If the unit is only a year old, try selling it second hand. You will not make a profit, but you will still make some money.Alternatively, you can hand it down to your child or to someone you know who may need a new one, and just see to it that the one they are currently using is also put to good use.2) Find a recycling company. There are companies that specialize in the recycling of old cellulars. The companies collect the units, dismantle them, and send usable parts back to manufacturers.Non-usable remains are either put to good use or are disposed of properly. These companies encourage that you simply discard your phone, dropping it off at drop-off point, though some of them will buy the unit from you.3) Donate it.Other companies focus on collecting old units and selling them or donating them to developing countries. This project is an attempt to make cellular communication to everyone, especially in countries that can use the technology the most as other communication infrastructure has not been put in place. With companies producing new models every year, and people buying into them, cellular technology has become the fastest growing type of toxic trash.Recycle old mobile phones and help stop pollution and the spread of toxic waste.
